Šmartinska Project is located in the central part of Ljubljana. The location distinguishes itself for the vicinity to the old heart of town, all infrastructural advantages and excellent traffic links. Its position next to Šmartinska cesta, one of the five arterial roads to the city, enables quick access to the city’s ring road on one side and to the most important business, cultural and recreational centers on the other. The central railway and bus station are also in immediate vicinity.The architectural solution proposed by the Zamp Kelp architectural studio from Berlin was used as the basis for town planning of the area under consideration.Šmartinska Project was designed to complement the old heart of the city with a new modern district, distinguished by its contemporary urban architecture which also enables a new way of living and urban culture development by its integration of housing with educational, cultural, healthcare and business facilities.
The Municipal Detailed Spatial Plan for this part of the city was adopted in 2015.The project shall encompass around 100,000 m2 of areas built above the ground, with up to four floors underground, which are intended for parking and service areas. In the middle of the developed area, a 14,000 m2 large park shall spread. The design of this new city district will provide for a high level of living for various groups of population, while the modern architectural solutions by internationally recognized architects will contribute to visual modernization of the city.
